Community Input Opportunity for New Police
The firm hired by the city of Aurora to conduct a national
search for the city’s next police chief is launching a community survey
today and will host a public forum Tuesday, June 14 to seek the community’s
input. Residents, businesses and community partners are encouraged to help
the city define the qualities, experience and values it will seek in the
Public Sector Search & Consulting, Inc. (PSSC) is a
California-based consultancy that specializes in the recruitment of police
executives. It will work with the city management team and Interim Chief
Daniel J. Oates, who served as Aurora’s police chief from 2005 to 2014, in
identifying exemplary police chief applicants who will be effective in
building morale at the Aurora Police Department, maintaining transparency
with the media and the community, furthering the city’s comprehensive,
systemic public safety changes, and tackling crime concerns across the

of public safety our community deserves,” City Manager Jim Twombly said.
“We will be thoughtful and thorough in our search for a new chief, and the
community’s input is a crucial first step.”
Under the city charter, the city manager is responsible for
hiring a police chief and receiving approval from the majority of the city
council. City management plans to name a new chief this fall.
PSSC has conducted more than 40 police executive searches in
recent years in major U.S. cities like San Jose, Calif., Raleigh, N.C., and
Albuquerque, N.M., but it also has recent experience working with the
cities of Northglenn, Boulder, Thornton and Wheat Ridge in Colorado.

Carnival on the Plaza is back for a second year of
The city of Aurora is hosting the
annual Carnival on the Plaza event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on
Saturday, June 11, at Fletcher Plaza, 9800 E. Colfax Ave.
the Plaza is a free event that brings the community together by
offering a fun summer experience with activities for all ages. This year’s
event will include carnival games such as ring toss and
skee-ball, face painting, balloon twisting, custom caricature drawings and
a sensory bus with activities for individuals of all abilities.
The second year of Carnival on the Plaza will also
include a large inflatable slide, a three-lane bungee run obstacle course
and giant darts. Attendees can even expect free ice cream and popsicles as
well as a special visit from Miles the mascot at noon.
High Line Canal Trail Project On-Demand
Virtual Open House
The city of Aurora is in the final design phase of a project
that will construct nearly two miles of multi-use trail to close the gap
between Colfax Avenue and recent improvements constructed north of I-70.
Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2022 or early 2023. Trail
completion is expected by late 2023. Project highlights include:
·Nearly two miles of new multi-use trail
·Continuous 8-foot wide concrete trail
·Pedestrian bridge over I-70
·Improved railroad crossing to promote pedestrian and
·Access to 71-mile High Line Canal Trail network with
connections to the existing trail on both ends of the project
This on-demand open house provides information regarding
trail design and anticipated construction. Visit the project page anytime
between June 6 and June 19 to review materials and provide comment.
Summer Adoption Special
Enjoy summer with a new friend from the Aurora Animal
Shelter! In celebration of summer, the shelter is doing an adoption special
on all adult dogs and cats 6 months and older. Until July 4, all dog
adoption fees have been reduced to $50 and cat adoption fees to $25. Stop
by the shelter or view their available animals online.
