AuroraGov.org debuts new look

Visitors to AuroraGov.org will see some changes starting this week. The site will still provide all the essential resources and information you need, but will feature a new look for improved navigation and access on mobile devices.

In an effort to improve user experience and modernize AuroraGov.org, the city of Aurora began a website overhaul in late 2019. Initially, the city had planned to launch this newly refreshed site right as COVID-19 began to impact our community. While priorities shifted to focus on COVID-19 resources and response, the site launch was delayed until this month.

With the change in the website, you may need to reset bookmarks you have saved linking to city pages. Most links will not be affected, but you may need to create new bookmarks for some. As you utilize the newly refreshed website, we welcome your feedback. If you experience any issues or would like to provide feedback regarding your experience, we invite you to fill out this form.

As always, Access Aurora is the best place to reach out to the city with questions or concerns. Look for the Access Aurora phone number and email address on the bottom of every page, or the Contact Us links at the top and bottom of every page.

This Saturday, electronic recycling at two locations

COVID-19 limited the city's ability to offer our electronics recycling event earlier this year, but we are now able to host one this weekend with COVID-19 precautions in place.

You may bring out most electronics for recycling from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at two locations: the Central Facilities Recycling Station, 13646 E. Ellsworth Ave., and the Tallyn’s Reach Library, 23911 E. Arapahoe Road.

Most electronic items—desktop computers, laptops, cell phones, tablets, gaming equipment, consumer electronics and similar—are accepted. A fee of $5 will be charged per household dropping off. Due to rising costs associated with processing some electronics, additional fees will be charged for items like monitors and printers (go to the website below for a complete list). Cash will be accepted, but a credit/debit card is preferred as payment.

For a list of items that will not be accepted, visit AuroraGov.org/Recycle and go to Recycling Opportunities, then Electronics Recycling.

City services and facilities to close Sept. 4 due to furlough day

The COVID-19 public health crisis has resulted in a significant financial impact to the city of Aurora, with an anticipated $25 million shortfall in 2020 and even more in 2021. The city has taken many steps to help offset these major shortfalls, such an implementing a hiring freeze, delaying capital expenditures and projects, reducing contracts and laying off seasonal, temporary and contingent employees who were not working due to COVID-19.

On Sept. 4, city employees will take a furlough day to further compensate for the shortfalls this year. Most city facilities will be closed, and city employees will not report to work or receive pay. However, all public health and safety services will continue to be fully staffed and provide around-the-clock coverage. An additional furlough day is scheduled for Oct. 16.

Visit AuroraGov.org for a list of facilities closed on Sept. 4 for the furlough day and on Sept. 7 in observance of Labor Day.
