Arapahoe County Open Spaces Master Plan Survey

Arapahoe County Open Spaces is asking residents to take an online Open Spaces Master Plan survey to share their thoughts about the future of County parks, trails and open spaces. This important survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete and can be taken anytime from July 8th – 24th.

All Arapahoe County residents are eligible to participate. Responses will remain anonymous and will help guide how Arapahoe County parks, trails and open space lands are preserved, enhanced and enjoyed for the next decade and beyond.

Aurora Mobile Food Pantry

Since launching on May 20, the Aurora Mobile Food Pantry has provided food to more than 10,000 community members, totaling 140,000 pounds of food, or 150,000 meals. The pantry continues every week through Aug. 26 at various locations throughout the city. This Mobile Food Pantry program is part of the city’s continuous efforts to provide needed services to the community in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

July events will take place every Thursday at Overland High School, 12400 E. Jewell Ave. Beginning in August, distribution will move to every Wednesday at Town Center at Aurora, 14200 E. Alameda Ave (enter from Alameda Ave. and S. Crystal St.). Distribution will begin at 10 a.m. each day until all food has been distributed.

Food items vary by week but have included: ready to eat meals, canned and boxed goods, grains, fresh produce and dairy, juice, and protein such as eggs, fish, and chicken. On average, the food provided to each household is enough to feed a family of four for five days.

Aurora Interfaith Community Services, in partnership with Food Bank of the Rockies and We Don’t Waste, will provide food for July events with the goal of serving 2,000 community members each week. Aurora Animal Services and Colorado Pet Pantry also distribute pet food and supplies on a weekly basis. To date, more than 11,000 pounds of pet food have been distributed via the Mobile Food Pantry.

For July, the Mobile Food Pantry will also include diapers and other baby items from WeeCycle, as well as books and at-home activities for children provided by Aurora Public Libraries.

All Aurora households are eligible, and emergency food kits are also available for those experiencing homelessness.

If you are driving to the mobile food pantry, remain in your car and wait your turn in line; do not park and leave your vehicle. If you are walking, please remember to practice social distancing while waiting your turn and wear a face covering.

The Aurora Mobile Food Pantry requires the support of more than 50 volunteers every week. For volunteer opportunities, contact communityrel@auroragov.org or 303.739.7281.
