Did you know that urban and suburban lawns cover more surface area than the largest crop grown in the US (Corn) and that lawns receive more pesticide applications per acre than agriculture? A study by Cristina Milesi of the NASA Ames Research Center in California found that, by a conservative estimate, there are three times more acres of lawns than irrigated corn covering our land areas. While the snow is melting and the grass is greening, let's do our best to maintain our lawns this year with weed mitigation and best practices for controlled watering! Seek your local Water Utility for more information.
