Bill preventing HOA bans on dog breeds fails to pass Colorado legislature
DENVER - A piece of legislation aimed at keeping homeowners associations from banning dog breeds failed to pass the Colorado House of Representatives Monday.
House Bill 18-1126 garnered
much attention when it was introduced.
It would have prevented HOAs from limiting dogs based on their size or breed.
It was ultimately defeated on a third reading by a 34-29 vote, according to the
Rep. Paul Rosenthal, who introduced the bill, said he was inspired by letters from constituents and his own experiences with finding housing that allows breeds like German Shepherds and Pit Bulls.
However, groups representing HOAs said the bill infringed on their rights.
